This milestone will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00 a.m. The renovated play area has been reorganized to better support recreation, gathering, and play for children and families. Designed by BASE Landscape Architecture and implemented by Bauman Landscape and Construction, the new nature-based children’s play area is now nestled in the rear of the property away from the street, while the soccer pitch has been relocated to the front of the site, creating a buffer between the street and children’s play spaces. The soccer pitch has also been resurfaced with new turf. The existing asphalt yard remains a flexible space for free play, programming, and community events. More than 16 new trees and over 1,000 square feet of new planting areas have transformed the formerly asphalt-heavy yard. Existing art sculptures were refurbished and relocated in partnership with the San Francisco Arts Commission. The redesigned space also includes a variety of new seating options, including terraced seating at the soccer pitch, picnic tables, log seating elements, and a contemplative seating area with benches and seat backs and boulders.
