Concrete was poured at the terrace steps between the BBQ areas and the Ella Hill Hutch lawn and stage. Our Memory Walk Phase 1 Artist and Artist Mentor, Malik Senefuru was on site recently, laying out the fabricated embedded paving symbols, which he designed in collaboration with community in workshops last winter. Memory Walk columns and fences will be painted in early September, and our decorative metalwork will arrive before the end of September as well. Temporary Detours Our contractors have been trenching to connect the park’s new electrical system to the PG&E grid. This trenching work continues to impact the sidewalks near Buchanan Mall and will continue to have impacts through mid-September. During this work, expect loud noise, temporary sidewalk closures, and pedestrian detours. We do not anticipate any new parking or traffic impacts related to this work. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during the week of 8/31 to remove a sewer manhole on Golden Gate Avenue. As always, please pay attention while traveling near project construction and follow all signage and flagger instructions. Pedestrian Access There remains no through-access for pedestrians between Fulton and McAllister streets, nor between McAllister Street and Golden Gate Avenue, until the project is complete this fall. An “Equity Action Plan” helps identify ways that the City can use the park renovation to promote lasting benefit in the neighborhood, including ways to improve health and wellness and create new economic opportunities. The first result of these gatherings was a series of workforce development initiatives that began in 2024 and included: supporting hyperlocal contractors networking with qualified prime contractors prior to bid construction pre-apprenticeship training and barrier removal services provided to 50 people across four cohorts six new equity-targeted hires onto the renovation project equity action targeted workers have performed over 15% of total worker hours and over 47% of total apprentice hours on the project to date Now, we are hosting two meetings to review and refine some of the operations-related initiatives in the Equity Action Plan.
